The Count of Monte Cristo (French: Le Comte de Monte-Cristo) is an adventure novel written by French novelist Alexandre Dumas (père) in 1844. It is one of the author's most well-known works, alongside The Three Musketeers. Auguste Maquet, his cooperating ghostwriter, proposed plot outlines for many of his novels, which he elaborated upon.
